Los ganadores de los premios se dan el 17 de Enero, un par de semanas antes de que se den a conocer los nominados a los Oscars. Generalmente, se dice que estos premios son la antesala de los Oscars.
Yendo a los nominados, destaco que, lamentablemente, El Secreto de sus Ojos no quedó entre las nominadas en la categoría Mejor Película Extranjera. Esto no quiere decir que tenga menos chances de estar en los Oscars. De hecho, vale recordar que El Hijo de la Novia tampoco estuvo nominada a los Globos, y sí llegó a los Oscars.
La película con más nominaciones es Amor sin Escalas (Up In The Air) con 6. Ésta es la nueva película protagonizada por George "Cuantas minas que tengo" Clooney y está dirigida y co-escrita por Jason Reitman, el director de Juno. Tiene fecha de estreno en la Argentina para el 4 de Febrero. Sus nominaciones son: mejor película dramática, mejor actor principal de drama (George Clooney), mejor actriz de reparto (Vera Farmiga y Anna Kendrick), mejor director (Jason Reitman) y mejor guión (Jason Reitman y Sheldon Turner.
Meryl Streep compite con ella misma y 3 mujeres más en la categoría de mejor actriz en comedia.
Sandra Bullock tiene dos nominaciones, por mejor actriz en drama y mejor actriz en comedia.
Quentin Tarantino tiene dos nominaciones, por mejor director y mejor guión, ambas por Bastardos Sin Gloria (Inglourious Basterds.
